After you upgrade a computer to Windows XP from Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the computer may appear to stop responding (hang) right after you type a password and dismiss the password creation dialog box. Additionally, you may see only a blue background on the screen.
If you press ALT+TAB to switch between the Windows Logon screen and the Welcome To Windows screen, the screen may not change, depending on what screen you are switching...

"Log Off" - you will quit all running programs and disconnect all network connections for
the current session. The session will not remain active.
"Switch User": all active programs and network connections will continue to run, and you will return to the Welcome screen,
where other users can log on. The user's session will remain active until the computer is restarted
or the user is logged off of the session.
8. How to place on the Desktop the "My Computer", "My Documents", and "My Network Places" icons:
In Windows XP when the new Start menu is enabled, the "My Computer", "My Documents", and
"My Network Places" icons are removed from the desktop.
To restore these icons:
1.Right-click the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click the Desktop tab.
3. Click Customize desktop.
4.Click the General tab, and then click the icon(s) that you want to place on
the desktop.
